#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
—————————————————————

Today I am presenting a song from the 1960 movie “Mukti”. This movie was introduced on the blog by our Shri Sudhir jee on 09.06.2017. So it is already seven years now since the movie was introduced on this blog.

In ‘2017’ I was in Kenya for my job, and it was only in ‘2020’ when I had already come back to India that I had posted my comment on this first song ‘dil lubha ke mere saathee bhool jaanaa naa’ of this movie ‘Mukti-1960’ on the blog. The above song that Sudhir jee posted is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and it was the 3200th song of Lata Mangeshkar on this blog.

I was aware of a movie of the same title which was released in ‘1977’. But ‘Mukti-1960’ was unfamiliar to me. Today while browsing the blog, I came across this movie title again. Since only one song of this movie was posted, this piqued my interest to look for and listen to the other songs of this movie.

“Mukti-1960” was directed by N. Buli for ‘Gurudev Pictures, Bombay’. N Buli was also the producer of this movie as per information given in Geet Kosh Vol-III (1951-1960). The cast of this movie had Nalini Jaywant, Motilal, Anant Kumar, Sulochana, Krishnakumari, S.N. Bannerjee, Bhudo Advani, R. P. Kapoor, Hemlata, Master Kishore, Baby Raj, Mintobai, Kesho, Kathana, Ram Raseela, Raj Sood, Sheela, Umesh Sharma, Tuntun, Prem Kumar, Kiranmala, Indira Bansal and others. This movie was certified by Censor Board on 24.02.1960.

“Mukti-1960” has nine songs in it. The lyricists for these nine songs are Munir Aarzoo Kazmi (seven songs) and Aarzoo Lakhnawi (two songs). Music for this movie was composed by Malay Chakravarti. The singers for this movie are Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, and Lata Mangeshkar. But the singer’s names are mentioned for individual six songs only in Geet Kosh. The other three songs remain without the name of the singer for these songs. However the ‘foot note’ of this movie page mentions Geeta Dutt, and G.M. Durrani as the playback singer for this movie with Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Mohd Rafi.

Today I am presenting the second song from this movie. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mohd Rafi. And what a wonderful song this is. This will take you back to the era of those ‘golden melodies’. The singing of Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhonsle creates magic as they always do. But I do not remember to have listened to or found this song in the various compilations that cassette companies brought out on Rafi-Asha duets. This song between two lovers fallen in love is a nice song and one can easily include it in the ‘chitrahaar’ category songs 🙂 Lyricist for the today’s song is Munir Aarzoo Kazmi and this song is his second song on the blog. Other than ‘Mukti-1960’ he wrote one song for the movie ‘Naqaab Posh-1956’ (which is already covered on the blog).

Editor’s note:- This songs sounds like Dekha ek khwaab to ye silsile huye but precedes this “Silsila”(1981) song by 21 years.

It was mentioned by Shri Sudhir jee in his post about Music Composer Malay Chakravarti :-

“The music director’s name is another new and unfamiliar one – Malay Chakravarty. The name does not appear anywhere else in the Geet Kosh, except for one regional film (a Chhatisgarhi film – ‘Kahin Debe Sandes’ from 1965)”.

Unless some new information becomes available about this composer, all we have now are his compositions from this movie ‘Mukti-1960’.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us listen to this song now…
